Marlys Coon

As a 4.5 pickleball player, Marlys enjoys playing regularly with the Paddle Pickler team, who come together weekly to hone their skills and enjoy the game. Marlys and Fermin Mize have shared a long friendship, and they have learned and played pickleball together for many years, strengthening their bond through their shared passion. Her enthusiasm for sharing knowledge and fostering a sense of community makes her a beloved figure in the pickleball community.

My pickleball journey & "Paddle Pickler"

What really drew me to pickleball was how accessible and social it was. Unlike some other sports, pickleball was easy to pick up, and the community was welcoming and supportive. I loved the fast-paced nature of the game and the strategic thinking it required. I decided to learn and play by myself, even though there weren't many resources available at the time. I spent countless hours practicing and figuring things out on my own.

One day, during a game, Fermin and I met Sid Edmondson. Sid shared a story about how his brother had been misled by fake reviews and ended up buying low-quality equipment. Given our experience and connections with professional players, we realized that our knowledge and insights could be incredibly helpful for the community. Inspired by this, the three of us decided to create Paddle Pickler, a platform dedicated to providing reliable reviews and educational content to help other players avoid the same pitfalls.

I love being able to share what I’ve learned and help others find the right equipment and improve their game. Seeing players thrive and enjoy pickleball as much as I do is incredibly rewarding. It’s this sense of community and shared passion that makes every moment worthwhile.
